Stone Soup is committed to breaking down social barriers like class, race, ability and age, in order to create a beloved community and build solidarity.
Our Community Meal provides access through curbside and delivery service to delicious, nutritious, scratch-cooked, balanced meals every Saturday to any and all of our community members on a pay-what-you-can basis.
Our menus cater to a variety of dietary needs and cultural cuisines with vegetarian, vegan, or meat selections. These weekly meals are prepared, served, delivered and enjoyed by volunteers from our neighborhoods and schools.
In 2022, we served an average of 1,863 meals per month to an average of 163 households per month.
We partner with myriad Franklin County farms and businesses to source and glean fresh, local, produce and ingredients for our meals. Reducing waste, strengthening regional food systems, and improving equitable access to healthy and high-quality food are some of our highest priorities. We are also a member agency of the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
The Café prides itself on providing a delicious, nutritious, edible, incredible, meal every Saturday – come rain, snow, or sunshine! Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have shifted to curbside pickup and delivery. We dearly miss the days of sitting and eating together, and we hope to do that again soon.
The Café’s food philosophy is probably why our meals have become a popular draw to our community. When we sit down together and share a meal we become a beloved community – a family who shares times of celebration and tradition.
Each week the Chef's team searches the world for these opportunities to celebrate our community. We embrace cuisine from around the world and bring it to the table for all to eat. Our desire is to provide palette-expanding opportunities that meet the needs of all our guests. Our food is made from scratch – rarely using processed foods – and meets the needs of any dietary preference or restriction. Our weekly menu offers vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free foods and meat or fish protein options.
Before COVID-19, we enhanced the weekly celebratory theme at the Café by decorating the room and tables. On any given week the tables may be sprinkled with confetti or candy, flowers – live or silk adorn the centerpieces -- and tablecloths and placemats are coordinated. The total dining experience is one that supports the occasion and cuisine. We want our community to enjoy the meal, get to know each other, and have a lovely time at the Café.

Every Saturday between 12pm and 1:30pm, Stone Soup Café serves a delicious prix fixe meal. Just come on over to the Café on Saturday and a volunteer will take your meal order. No need to RSVP.
A prix fixe menu is a fixed menu with little to no variability. It typically includes an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. While guests can modify these based on dietary restrictions, there is only one option to choose from per course. Since COVID, Stone Soup Café has had to shift from a buffet style lunch to a fixed, set menu for curbside pickup or delivery.
There are no prices posted anywhere on our menus; rather we are a donation based meal that is dependent upon our guest’s choice of payment. Our “Pay-What-You-Can” meal provides the opportunity for all to anonymously contribute to the cost of the meal. One person’s donation is no less important than another’s. We are blessed to have a deep and lasting relationship with Just Roots, Greenfield's Community Farm. Their first season coincided with our first summer. We are the recipients of their produce on a weekly basis from May until November every year. Click here to learn more about our partnerships.
